     James Shapcott was born in February 1767 at Molland, Devon, England.¹ He was baptized on 1 March 1767 at Molland, Devon, England.^1,2,3 In 1794 James Shapcott was a schoolteacher.
An entry in British History Online reads:
"At the end of the eighteenth century there was a boarding school for young men in the village. here the boys were taught subjects to qualify them for business. In 1794 Mr Shapcot had succeeded Mrs Lawes as head teacher. living at Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, England.⁴ He married Anne Lawes, daughter of William Lawes and Ann Lawes, on 10 May 1794 at Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, England; although James identity is still not conclusively proven it appears most likely that this is James Shapcott born in Devon in 1767. When James' mother Sarah Shapcott died, she left her house and residue of her estate to her daughter Betty Pearson, her eldest son, John had died in 1797. The fact that Sarah left the house to her youngest, her daughter suggests that the middle son James, had moved away from the area. It seems extremely likely that he is the James Shapcott who married Ann Lawes.^5,6 An advertisement inserted in the Salisbury & Winchester Journal by J. Shapcott advising that he has taken over the school previously occupied by Mrs Lawes.⁷ James Shapcott was Subscription to the Thirty Nine Articles of Religion agreed in 1562 etc etc
and to that part of the Declaration of the Act of Uniformity of Public Prayer.

Also took the Oath of Allegiance and Supremacy.⁸ An advertisement inserted in the Salisbury & Winchester Journal by J. Shapcott advising that Boreham Boarding School re-opens on Monday 18th January.⁹ An advertisement inserted in the Salisbury & Winchester Journal by J. Shapcott advising that Boreham Boarding School re-opens on Monday 19th January and seeking a classical assistant.¹⁰ Advertisement inserted in the Salisbury & Winchester Journal by J and E Shapcott advising that
the school re-opens on 20th.¹¹ He was buried on 9 September 1825 at Bristol, Gloucestershire, England; Appears likely since he was alive living in Bristol earlier that year (ref Throckmorton deeds). Griffin Lane (now called Lower Park Row) was in a reasonably well to do area and age at death is only 4 years off his birth year of 1767.
